In early July of 2013, a swimming accident caused several breaks of his cervical vertebrae (C4, C5 and C6) and bruised his spinal cord. Michael, as a 21-year-old, had to undergo multiple surgeries and procedures for his injury, which could potentially render him paralyzed from the chest down.
Michael Fraser embodies warrior spirit. He remains a third degree black belt in Taekwondo with Grandmaster Phillip Ameris. He was an active member of Robert Morris University until his successful graduation in 2015 earning a degree.
Today, Michael, known to his friends as Mike, is a survivor of a major spinal cord injury and is working hard to continue his fight towards independence. He has spent time at HealthSouth in Harmarville, Pennsylvania and currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his brother, Cori, where he continues his care at the Shepherd Center.
His daily regimen and pursuit of independence requires specialized therapeutic treatment and equipment. Unfortunately, much of Michael’s on-going care is not covered by insurance. Many parents strive to support their children through challenges, and Michael’s parents are no different. In order for Michael to pursue his fight to independence, they need to look towards the generosity of others for assistance during this life-changing situation.
To help support his needs, Michael’s friends created the Mike Fraser Benefit Fund where those who would like to support Michael can safely make donations.
Michael and his family greatly appreciate your kindness, prayers and philanthropy. Every donation makes a difference.
